My name is Zachary Roberts. I've recently graduated from Houghton College as an Applied Design major and currently living in Syracuse, New York. Graphic Design is what gets me up in the morning.
I love photography and video on top of design and have had the opportunity to use these skills in a number of internships. I'm now looking for a new opportunity to fully begin my career.
Portrait
Photography
In my final college year had the opportunity to photograph a number of classmates and friends with lighting skills and techniques. Each one is done in a different style with various kinds of equipment and lighting patterns.

Assignment:
Create a square portrait that could be used as an album cover for a specific genre of music.
Equipment:
Hot lights (key, fill, hair)
Hand held diffusing scrim
6'x6' diffuser scrim
C stands
Stool
Apple box
Method:
Meticulously positioned the model until eye, hair, hand, and head position were correct. Set camera to timer to climb ladder and flag off parts of the hair light.
Assignment:
Take a portrait using strobe lighting and colored gels
Equipment:
Strobe lights (key/background, rim)
Beauty dish with sock
Flags
C stands
Stool
Blue and Orange gels
Method:
Had the model look up into the blue strobe light to get eye catch light. Positioned strobes to create loupe lighting pattern and orange rim lighting.
Assignment:
Shoot a portrait with outdoor ambient light and two portable strobe lights and an umbrella.
Equipment:
Small strobe lights (key, hair)
Diffusing umbrella
6'x6' diffuser scrim
Outdoor lighting stands
Method:
Used the dappled sunlight coming through the tree for a textured feel as I used the main strobe as the key light. A strobe behind the model was used as a hair and rim light.
Assignment:
Use hot lights to create a simple in-studio portrait with one of the four main portrait lighting patterns.
Equipment:
Hot light (key)
Hand held reflector scrim
6'x6' diffuser scrim
C stands
Stool
Method:
Used a hot light with high angle lighting and a scrim to create black and white loupe portrait.
Assignment:
Do a stylized editorial shoot with a partner and a model with only natural lighting and reflectors.
Equipment:
Two silver hand-held scrims
Method:
Chose location and backdrop. Instructed model to act like we weren't there while holding scrims and taking numerous shots while standing in lake water.
